Product Templates are a great way to create a basic product template that can be applied without having to create a product for every strain. Product templates can be applied to any strain, at any packaging point, to save you hours on creating and maintaining your Product Catalog.
This is particularly useful for flower (each) packages, ensuring compliance with Metrc’s count-based categories and streamlining inventory management.
You can continue to create individual strain-specific products with the Product Creator if you choose to. Read here for more information on how to Create Products.
Create Product Templates
1. Head to Admin > Products > Templates and click +Add New Templates
2. In the Template Creator:
A. Select Bulk or Packaged and the Traceability Type
B. Select the Category
C. Product Name
Use generic names for templates to maintain flexibility and avoid clutter in your inventory system. Avoid including specific details like strain names or weights, as these are populated in other fields and could cause redundancy on invoices or manifests.
Notes:
Creating Packaged templates will give you the unit size and price options
If custom Categories have not been created, you can add them by clicking Create New Category. See Product Categories.
Selecting a Brand is optional. See Product Brands for more information.
Clicking Use Category will simply create a Product Template named the same as the Category selected
Notes: Optionally, add any useful product notes, such as ingredients, QA information, or product description. This can be helpful for labeling purposes using the {{ProductNotes}} dynamic field.
Avoid redundancy in product names by ensuring strain and weight details are added in the appropriate fields rather than the template name. This practice aligns with Metrc requirements and ensures consistency.
3. Once the traceability type is selected, the remainder of the form will populate to be filled in:
Bulk Product
A. Use Options to add Attributes like flavor or mood
See Product Attributes for more information.
B. Set a Default Label: Choose the label to print packaging and labeling inventory. This is optional but is recommended for ease of use later on
C. Set Default Recipe: Assign a Default Recipe if utilizing the GrowFlow COGS features
See The Complete Guide on COGS to learn more.
D. Include new products in store: Checking this box automatically adds any new products you create from this template to your Live Marketplace. The new products will be added and set to Public for each store you have in your account.
E. Choose a unit of measure
F. Add the price if applicable, this will be per unit of measure you have selected
Packaged Product
A. Use Options to add Attributes like flavor or mood
See Product Attributes for more information.
B. Choose a default source product for quick one-to-one conversions
C. Set a Default Label: Choose the label to print packaging and labeling inventory. This is optional but is recommended for ease of use later on
D. Set Default Recipe: Assign a Default Recipe if utilizing the GrowFlow COGS features
See The Complete Guide on COGS to learn more.
E. Include new products in store: Checking this box automatically adds any new products you create with the template to your Live Marketplace. The new products will be added and set to Public for each store you have in your account.
F. Choose a unit of measure
G. Package Size and Price: Package size is the net weight of each unit before packaging materials. Package price is directly correlated with each unit
Notes:
Add multiple package sizes and pricing options to create multiple products of the same type at once by clicking Add Size.
Check the box for each size under Sample if the products are intended for samples.
Package Size is only available for pre-packaged Products. If you do not see the Size options available that means the product type you have selected is a Bulk type product and will need to be re-selected as a Packaged product type.
Package Price is editable after a Product is created. The edited price will be applied to all inventories that are assigned the Product Template.
To Edit a Price, access the Product on the Admin > Product > Product Catalog. Select the Product line, and click the blue Edit icon. Input the unit cost into the price field and click Modify to save.
4. Once the template details are complete, click Create Product Template
