GrowFlow Retail supports the designation of products and packages as “Is Medical” to indicate the package/product is “Medical”. The application and use of this medical designation varies by state. It is currently available in Montana and Washington.

  • A product can be designated as “Is Medical”

  • A package can be designated as “Is Medical”

  • In Washington, for incoming transfers via GrowFlow Wholesale API and WCIA, GrowFlow Retail will recognize the “Is Medical” flag on a package on a transfer and apply that to the package in GrowFlow Retail.

  • There is no restriction in GrowFlow Retail on who medical packages can be sold to.

  • A tax rule can be set to exclude a tax when a medical product/package is sold to a medical customer.

    • This applies specifically to the 37% Excise tax in Washington.

GrowFlow does not restrict which types of stores (Recreational, Medical) can import medical and sell medical products, nor does it restrict to whom they can be sold.

How do you use it?

Prerequisites

  • You must be in the state of Montana or Washington.

GrowFlow does not verify that the store, product, package, or customer has the required medical licenses and testing. This is the responsibility of the retailer.

Medical Products

  • Add or edit an existing product from Organization > Products

  • Add/edit the product information

    • For medical products, you may want to include “Medical” or in Washington “DOH” in the product name to help indicate the product is medical

  • To designate the product as medical, enable the Is Medical Use toggle.

  • Select Save and Close.

Medical Packages

  • For an incoming transfer, for a medical package, click the box Is Medical Package.

    • In Washington, for transfers synced via the GrowFlow Wholesale API or via WCIA, if the package had the “is medical” flag set to true, the “Is Medical Package” box will be checked automatically.

  • Assign the package to a Product.

  • When ready, Accept and Activate the package(s).

  • The medical designation of a package can be viewed in the following ways:

    • On Inventory > Packages, an “Is Medical Use” column can be displayed. The value in that column will be true for a medical package.

    • On Inventory > Packages, after selecting a package, on the Package Details, the “Is Medical Use” field will say “True”.

Excluding a Tax based on “Medical Designation”

When the state is Montana or Washington, and the store is a Medical or Med/Rec store, an additional Tax setting is available.

  • From Settings > Taxes, add or edit a tax.

  • To exclude the tax when a medical product is sold to a medical customer, in the Product Exclusions section, enable the setting Exclude for Medical Packages.

  • Click Save and Close.

Below is an example of an order with both a sales tax and an excise tax, where the excise tax is excluded from the medical package and customer.

On the Order Details, the Excise Tax was not collected, only the sales tax:

Limiting the Sale of Medical Product to Medical Customers Only

For retailers in Washington and Montana, in Settings > General, there is a toggle to “Allow sale of Medical Products to Recreational Customers” in the Customer Management subsection.

This toggle is ON by default, which allows all customers to buy medical products.

To limit the sale of medical products to medical customers only, turn this toggle to the OFF position.

Remember to scroll down to the bottom of the page and save your changes after turning the toggle on or off!
