This article explains how to connect Claude (or another AI assistant that supports MCP connectors) to your GrowFlow Retail data using Connect AI Agent. Once connected, you can ask questions about your products, inventory, sales, and customers in plain English, with no exports or spreadsheets.
Please Note: The connection is read-only. The AI assistant can read your GrowFlow data to answer questions, but it can never change, delete, or create anything. It only sees what your own GrowFlow login can already see in the app.
IMPORTANT: Connect AI Agent is rolling out to select organizations. If you don't see Connect AI Agent in your account menu, it isn't enabled for your organization yet. Reach out to GrowFlow Support to ask about access.
Who can connect
Admins, Organization Admins, and Super Admins can connect right away.
Other users need an admin to turn on the Connect AI Agent (MCP) permission in their user permissions.
You'll also need:
A GrowFlow Retail login with a current store selected
A Claude account that can add custom connectors
There is no password, API key, or secret to manage. You sign in with your normal GrowFlow login.
Connect Claude to GrowFlow
In GrowFlow
1. Click your initials at the top of the left-side navigation to open the account menu.
2. Click Connect AI Agent.
3. Copy the two values shown in the window:
MCP server URL: the address for your organization's connection.
OAuth Client ID: a public identifier for GrowFlow. It is not a secret.
In Claude
4. Go to claude.ai in a web browser and open Settings → Connectors.
5. Click Add custom connector.
6. Paste the MCP server URL. Open the advanced settings and paste the OAuth Client ID. Leave the client secret blank.
7. Click Add, then Connect. A GrowFlow sign-in window opens.
8. Log in with your usual GrowFlow credentials and approve access. When it finishes, the connector shows as connected.
Tip: To check that it worked, start a new chat and ask: "Which GrowFlow stores can you see, and what permissions do I have?" If Claude lists your stores, you're all set.
Please Note: Set up the connector at claude.ai in a web browser. Once it's connected there, you can use it in your Claude chats.
What you can ask
Ask in plain English. You don't need to know table names or write queries. For example:
"What were our top 10 sellers last month?"
"How much Blue Dream flower do we have on hand?"
"Show me revenue by category for the last 7 days."
"What's our average order value this week compared to last week?"
Claude can answer questions about:
Products and catalog: products, prices, product categories, brands, strains, and suppliers
Inventory: what's on hand at a store, by product, brand, or category
Sales and orders: sales totals for a date range, revenue by day, month, product, brand, or category, top sellers, and order counts and averages
Customers: customer lists and details (anonymous walk-in customers are left out, just like in the app)
Stores: store names, addresses, license numbers, hours, and time zones
Cost and margin figures are included for users who can already see them in GrowFlow's reports.
Live Metrc checks
If live Metrc checks are also enabled for your organization, Claude can look up your Metrc data in real time to compare it against GrowFlow. This covers active and inactive packages, packages on hold or in transit, adjustments, incoming, outgoing, and rejected transfers, and active and voided sales receipts. It's built for questions like "Where did this package go?" and for reconciliation.
What your permissions allow
Claude can only read what your GrowFlow permissions already allow. If you ask for something your permissions don't cover, Claude won't have it. Admins, Organization Admins, and Super Admins can read everything below.
Data | Permission needed | Stores covered |
Products and product categories | Inventory → Products | Your whole organization |
Suppliers | Inventory → Suppliers | Your whole organization |
Customers | Customers | Your whole organization |
Brands, strains, and store details | Admin | Your whole organization |
On-hand inventory | Inventory → Packages | One store at a time |
Orders and sales | Reports | One store at a time |
Live Metrc packages | Inventory → Packages | The store's Metrc license |
Live Metrc transfers | Inventory → Transfers | The store's Metrc license |
Live Metrc sales receipts | Reports | The store's Metrc license |
View Only is enough for each permission above.
Which stores you can ask about
Inventory, orders, sales, and Metrc questions cover your current store by default. You can ask about another store only if your login has access to it:
Organization Admins can ask about any store.
Everyone else, including store-level Admins, can ask only about their assigned stores.
How your data stays secure
Read-only. Claude cannot edit, delete, or create anything in GrowFlow, Metrc, BioTrack, or CCRS.
Locked to your organization. Every request is limited to your organization and your store access.
Checked every time. Your account status, permissions, and stores are checked on every question. If a user is deactivated or loses a permission, the change applies to their next question.
Sensitive details stay hidden. Store settings and credentials are never shared, and sales data leaves out customer and employee IDs.
To disconnect, remove the GrowFlow connector from Settings → Connectors in Claude.
Good to know
Data can lag by a few minutes. Answers come from GrowFlow's reporting data, so asking questions never slows down your registers. Very recent sales or inventory changes may take a few minutes to show up. Live Metrc checks are real-time.
Sales questions default to the last 30 days. Name a date range to look further back, for example "sales from January through March".
Big lists are trimmed. Claude returns up to 200 rows per answer. For large lists, ask for totals or narrow it down, for example by category or store.
Ask one or two questions at a time. Each user can run two requests at once.
Double-check dollar amounts that look off. If a price or total looks 100 times too high or low, ask Claude to confirm the units.
Not included yet
Making changes of any kind, including creating orders or sending anything to Metrc, BioTrack, or CCRS
GrowFlow transfers, taxes, and discounts data (Metrc transfers are available through live Metrc checks, where enabled)
Live BioTrack or CCRS lookups
Printing labels or manifests, exporting full reports, or reproducing Insights dashboards
For anything on this list, keep using GrowFlow as you do today.
Troubleshooting
What you see | What to do |
No Connect AI Agent option in the account menu | Connect AI Agent isn't enabled for your organization yet. Contact GrowFlow Support. |
The GrowFlow MCP server is not enabled for this organization | Same as above: your organization isn't enabled yet. Contact GrowFlow Support. |
Your GrowFlow account does not have permission to use the MCP server | Ask an admin to turn on the Connect AI Agent (MCP) permission for your user, or have an admin connect instead. |
Connection failed, or Invalid or expired token | Copy the MCP server URL and OAuth Client ID again from Connect AI Agent, paste them exactly, then disconnect and reconnect. |
The sign-in window shows an error or keeps looping | Make sure you're signing in with the same GrowFlow login you use in the app. Disconnect the connector and reconnect. |

Too many concurrent requests. Slow down and retry. | Wait a moment, then ask one question at a time. |
A very recent sale or change is missing | Data can lag a few minutes. Try again shortly. |
