Beginning June 1st, 2025, OMMA will require all medical marijuana flower, trim, shake, kief, medical marijuana products, or other flower-based products that aren't considered concentrates to be sold in pre-packaged form, ranging from 0.5 grams to 3 ounces.

While these changes mandate pre-packaging, OMMA, in conjunction with Metrc, will not be introducing new "each" categories in Metrc for Flower & Buds or Shake/Trim at this time. You will continue using these standard Metrc categories for both bulk and pre-packaged flower. To comply with this, a note stating how many units make up each package tag will be required when pre-packing these Metrc categories.

GrowFlow is here to help you manage this transition! We provide "Flower Each" and "Shake/Trim (each)" categories to allow you to track pre-packaged inventory and sales by individual units. However, please remember: because OMMA has not created corresponding "each" categories in Metrc, you must still add the required note detailing the unit count per package, even when using GrowFlow's unit-based categories.

This article will guide you through the process of pre-packing flower in GrowFlow to meet these new Oklahoma regulations.

Pre-Packaging Flower or Shake/Trim in Advance

Use the Package tool on the Inventory Overview to convert bulk flower into pre-packaged units, allowing you to prepare inventory ahead of time.

1. Click Package on the Inventory Overview

2. Select Pre-packaged Items

3. Select the Flower Each or Shake/Trim (each) category, based on what you are packaging

4. Select the applicable Template or Product

Note: If the specific Product or Template you need isn't listed, you'll first need to click Create New Product Template to set it up in your account.

5. If using a Product Template, select the applicable strain

6. Enter the total number of units you are creating from the bulk source

  • E.g., if you are making 10 3.5g units, enter "10"

7. Locate and enter the amount to use from the source package

8. Ensure the This product requires QA re-testing checkbox remains UNCHECKED

Important: Pre-packaging flower or shake/trim from material that has already passed testing does not require a new Production Batch or re-testing by OMMA. Leaving this box unchecked ensures the new pre-packaged items correctly inherit the existing QA test results.

9. Select the Room where these units will be stored

10. Complete any other necessary fields on the form, then click Preview Convert

11. Review the conversion details, then click Confirm

Entering the Required Metrc Unit Note

This step is crucial for meeting Oklahoma's regulation requiring a note in Metrc that specifies the number of units per package tag.

1. Immediately after the pre-packaging conversion is complete, locate and select the newly created package (containing your pre-packaged items) on the Inventory Overview

2. Click Modify

3. Under Details, enter the package's unit count in the Traceability Note field

GrowFlow's Recommendation: For clear OMMA and Metrc compliance, enter a detailed note with the total number of individual units within the package. While the exact phrasing is your choice, ensure it's unambiguous. Consider formats such as:

  • 10 eighths

  • 3.5g x 10 units

4. Finish by clicking Modify Inventory

9. If any waste was accumulated during packaging, enter the waste weight

10. Select the Room where these units will be stored

11. Complete any other necessary fields on the form, then click Preview Convert

Metrc Guidance

For comprehensive details directly from the state and any specific steps required within the Metrc system itself, please refer to the official Metrc Bulletin: OK_IB_0048 Pre-Packs.

We understand that adding a traceability note in GrowFlow for each pre-packaged item, which then syncs to Metrc, is an additional step in your workflow. However, diligently performing this action is currently essential to ensure your operations remain fully compliant with the new OMMA regulations.

Like you, GrowFlow anticipates future system enhancements by OMMA in conjunction with Metrc, such as the potential introduction of dedicated "each" categories for Flower & Buds and Shake/Trim. Such changes could streamline these processes. Rest assured, GrowFlow is committed to adapting our platform to support your business effectively.
